I’ve been eager to create a simple and savory dog treat recipe. These Broccoli and Chicken Dog Treats were such a hit with my dogs. I am even more excited to start creating more savory dog treat recipes!
I will show you how to make these broccoli, and chicken dog treats in two different ways. My niece gave me a Dash Dog Treat Maker for my birthday. So I will show you how I used that and show you how to bake them in a traditional oven.
*Always constult with your vet before introducing new foods to your dog. Be mindful of food sensitivities and introduce new foods slowly. This recipe is simply just a healthy treat for your dog and not meant to replace a full balanced meal.

You will only need five ingredients to make these healthy Broccoli and Chicken Dog Treats…
Luna is allergic to eggs, so I opted to use a dog-safe egg alternative by mixing chia seeds and water. You can use an egg instead, though, if you don’t have any allergies to worry about. You will only need fully cooked chicken breast, cooked and unseasoned brown rice, steamed and unseasoned broccoli, brown rice flour, and your chia egg (or regular egg).
Can dogs eat broccoli?
Broccoli is considered a safe and healthy veggie option for dogs. Broccoli can be fed to your dog raw, baked, or steamed, unseasoned, and introduced slowly in small quantities.
Too much broccoli can cause gastric irritation in dogs, so you will, of course, want to chat with your vet before introducing this vegetable to their diet. My dogs LOVED the broccoli, though! I think they particularly loved the smell of the steamed broccoli I used in our broccoli and chicken dog treats.
Other health benefits of these Broccoli and Chicken Dog Treats
- Chicken is a good source of Omega-6 fatty acids and protein, contains glucosamine and essential amino acids.
- Brown Rice contains Vitamins B and D, which are great for heart health; it is high in fiber and magnesium and is a good carbohydrate source.
- Chia Seed Egg: Chia seeds are considered a superfood! As with all foods, make sure to introduce them slowly. These tiny seeds are high in protein and fiber, may help to reduce inflammation, aid in brain function, and are a great source of Omega-3 fatty acids.
Using the Dash Dog Treat Maker
My niece sent me the Dash Dog Treat Maker as a birthday gift, and it is so fun to use! I am excited to try more treat recipes using it. It would make an excellent gift for any dog mom or a great gift for yourself!
If you use the Dash Dog Treat Maker for this broccoli and chicken dog treat recipe, you will still use all of the same ingredients. Follow the instructions 2-4 below, spray the treat maker lightly with cooking oil, fill each form with dough, close the lid and bake for 7 minutes, flip treats with tongs and bake an additional 6 minutes.
So easy and clean up was a breeze!
I stored these treats in an airtight container in the fridge for one week. I hope your pup loves these treats as much as mine did!

minutesYou only need five ingredients to create these yummy broccoli and chicken dog treats!
Ingredients
1/2 Cup of plain cooked chicken breast. Coarsley chopped and unseasoned.
1/2 Cup of fully cooked and unseasoned brown rice. (I used 90 second brown rice to make this even easier.)
1/4 Cup of steamed broccoli crowns (unseasoned)
1 Chia Seed Egg (or 1 Regular Egg) See step 2 for instructions on making a chia seed egg.
2 TBSP of Brown Rice Flour
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 F
- Make your chia egg by combining one tablespoon of chia seeds with three tablespoons on warm water. Whisk together and allow to sit for 5-10 minutes. You will see that they will become thick and gel like.
- Quickly steam your broccoli crowns in the microwave. I used a shallow dish filled with a few inches of water, added the broccoli, and cooked in the microwave uncovered for 2-3 minutes.
- Combine your 1/2 c. of fully cooked chicken (coarsley chopped), 1/2 c. of fully cooked brown rice, 1/4 c. of steamed broccoli, and your chia egg in a food processor. Pulse to create a well-combined puree.
- Pour mixture into a bowl and add 2 TBSP of brown rice flour. Mix with a fork until well combined.
- Fill your silicone baking molds with the treat mixture. Bake for 20-25 minutes (edges will start to brown). Remove from the oven, allow to cool completely, and store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week.
You can also make small quarter sized patties if you don’t have treat molds.
Notes
- Always constult with your vet before introducing new foods to your dog. Be mindful of food sensitivities and introduce new foods slowly. This recipe is simply just a healthy treat for your dog and not meant to replace a full balanced meal.
- Oven times may vary. Check your treats at 20 minutes, add five minutes of additional bake time until the edges begin to brown.
- I do not include how much each treat recipe will make. The quantity can vary based on how large you make your treats or the size of your silicone molds.
