Pumpkin Peanut Butter Oat Dog Treats

It has been such a whirlwind of a year! It’s so hard to believe it’s already Thanksgiving, and soon we will be celebrating Christmas. I am trying to embrace the holiday spirit and cheer this year. Even though we will be celebrating the holidays a little differently due to the pandemic, I had so much fun creating these Pumpkin Peanut Butter Oat Dog Treat Recipe.

We won’t be traveling much for the holidays this year, and I won’t be doing my typical Christmas-Cookie-Baking-Extravaganza. So I thought, why not create a holiday dog treat “cookie” tin for my neighbors and the very few family members we will be able to see.

Officially obsessed with these cookie stamps. If you don’t have stamps they can easily be rolled into one-inch balls and flattened with your thumb.

These Pumpkin Peanut Butter Oat dog treats make perfect holiday dog cookies! I found the most adorable holiday-themed cookie presses on Amazon, and these turned out so adorably festive. The best part is I was able to skip the egg!

So, you should have a little less to worry about when it comes to dogs and food sensitivities. It’s always best to double-check about any allergies before gifting dog treats to anyone – just to be safe.

Five simple ingredients create the perfect holiday dog treat. Package in a holiday cookie tin to gift to neighbors, friends, and family.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 Cups of Quick Oats

  • 1/2 Cup of Unsweetened Applesauce

  • 1/2 Cup of pure Pumpkin Puree. (Make sure you have pure canned pumpkin and NOT pumpkin pie filling)

  • 2 TBSP of Peanut Butter (No Xylitol)

  • 1 TSP on Honey (Optional. Honey should not be fed to dogs under one year old)

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Process quick oats in a food processor for two minutes to create Oat Flour. Reserve a tiny bit to dust your cutting board.
  • Combine all of your ingredients in a bowl until a firm dough forms.
  • If you’re using the cookie cutters/presses I suggest cooling your dough in the fridge for 10-15 minutes. This will make it easier to roll, cut, and create a clean design. If you don’t have the stamps, you can just roll one inch balls and flatten them in the center with your thumb.
  • Lightly dust your cutting board with oat flour to prevent your dough from sticking. Roll out your dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  • Use parchment paper on a cookie sheet or very lightly spray your cookie sheet with baking spray. Place your cut out shapes on your cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 22-25 minutes and allow to cool completely. Store in the fridge for up to one week.

Notes

  • Honey should not be given to dogs under one year old.
  • Make sure your peanut butter does not contain xylitol. Aim for single-ingredient peanut butter if you can!
  • Oven times may vary. Treats should feel firm when done. Edges may start to lightly brown.
