Fat Elvis Pupcake Recipe

Would you believe me if I told you this Fat Elvis Pupcake Recipe is healthy and a little indulgent? It’s the perfect treat to celebrate your dog’s birthday or any day of the week.

Luna, Okja and I all have March birthdays! So, why am I waiting until May to share this Fat Elvis Pupcake Recipe? I had the pleasure of being approved to attend the Global Pet Expo this past March! I am out of town for Elvis’s birthday in May – so we’re celebrating everyone with these Fat Elvis Pupcakes!

The Global Pet Expo is the world’s biggest pet event, that requires you to meet specific criteria to attend. I knew I would qualify based on my Instagram, but I wanted to put my blog metrics to the test! I was so excited that my blog traffic met the requirements, and I was able to attend as a blogger. When I started this blog a few years ago, I didn’t think anyone except my mom would look at it. Now I have the best audience, thanks to YOU!

I had to make up for being out of town for everyone’s birthday. This Fat Elvis Pupcake Recipe was the only way to make things right!

Fat Elvis Pupcake Recipe

This recipe is similar to my Easy Peanut Butter Pupcake with Strawberry Drizzle. I swapped the unsweetened applesauce for banana and added the dog’s favorite indulgent snack – freshly crumbled bacon!

If you want another easy Fat Elvis dog-safe recipe that doesn’t require you to turn on the oven, you can try my Fat Elvis Lickimat Recipe, which I made for Elvis’s birthday.

The real question- Can Dogs Eat Bacon?

Strawberry, Banana, Peanut Butter Pupcakes

The short answer that I want to give you and your vet would likely agree – Bacon is not a healthy treat and, generally, isn’t a good option to feed dogs. However, it is NOT toxic, but bacon isn’t a healthy snack for dogs OR humans.

If you’ve visited the blog before, you know I am passionate about healthy dog treats. However, every Sunday, I split a piece of bacon with my dogs; they LOVE it!
It’s essential to keep in mind your specific dog’s health before letting them indulge in a small piece of bacon. It should also never be an everyday snack. However, Turkey bacon can be a good option when starting to let your dog indulge a bit.

For this recipe, I used a small amount of uncured bacon, which I know my dogs are used to because that is what I let them nibble on during our Sunday breakfasts. If you’re concerned about using bacon – omit it from this Fat Elvis Pupcake Recipe. Your dog will enjoy this pupcake just the same without it!

Do these Fat Elvis Pupcakes have any health benefits?

  • Banana: Low-calorie, high in biotin, potassium, and fiber.
  • Peanut Butter: (single-ingredient): Source of protein, healthy fats, Vitamin B, and Vitamin E. [Single-ingredient peanut butter is best, but always ensure the peanut butter you’re serving your pup does NOT contain Xylitol.]
  • Strawberries: This fruit can help to strengthen the immune system, contains Folic Acid, Vitamins B6 and K, and also contains potassium.
  • Oats: Oats are an excellent wheat alternative for dogs sensitive to wheat. Oats are a healthy carbohydrate and contain Vitamin B, Copper, Magnesium, Calcium, and Iron.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Cup Quick Oats

  • 1/2 Banana (Mashed)

  • 1/4 Cup Peanut Butter (Dog-safe, see notes)

  • Fully cooked low sodium or turkey bacon (optional)

Directions

  • Prepare your bacon by baking of frying. Set aside on a paper towel to absorb excess fat and to cool completely. Preheat oven to 350 F.
  • Mash half banana in a bowl, add 1/4 cup of dog-safe peanut butter and thoroughly mix.
  • Add 1/2 cup of quick oats to banana and peanut butter mixture. Thoroughly mix to combine. Evenly distribute mix into four muffin cups. I used silicone muffin liners but regular liners in a muffin tin will work fine.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes. Oven times may vary – I would double check them at 15 minutes to make sure the edges aren’t overly browned. Allow to cool.

  • Remove pupcakes from oven and allow to cool and top with a small amount of strawberry purée. I gave each dog about 1/4-1/2 slice of bacon on each pupcake. You can crumble the bacon or stick a piece if bacon in the center.

Notes

  • I prefer single ingredient peanut butter for my dog treats. Otherwise, regular peanut butter is generally okay for dogs. Just be sure that your peanut butter does not contain Xylitol as this ingredient is toxic to dogs.
