Peanut Butter and Jelly Dog Treats

I think these treats make the perfect Valentine’s Day dog treat. However, your dog will love these Peanut Butter and Jelly Dog Treats all year!

Peanut Butter and Jelly Dog Treats

I’ve wanted to create a thumbprint dog treat for a while now. A recipe for Peanut Butter and Jelly Dog Treats sounded like the best reason to develop a thumbprint dog treat.

You only need five ingredients to pull together these thumbprint dog treats—three ingredients for the peanut butter thumbprint cookie and two ingredients for the jelly.

If you don’t have chia seeds in your cupboard, go ahead and add them! Again, you don’t need much for this recipe, but chia seeds can be used for other treat recipes used as a food topper, and you can check out all of their incredible health benefits below.

Yes, just make sure you are making my dog-safe version of jelly. Traditional jelly you purchase at the store could have health risks for your dog.

Peanut Butter and Jelly Dog Treats
  • Chia Seeds: These little seeds are considered a superfood! Chia seeds are high in protein and fiber, may help reduce inflammation, aid brain function, and are a great source of Omega-3 fatty acids.
  • Peanut Butter: (single-ingredient): Source of protein, healthy fats, Vitamin B, and Vitamin E. [Single-ingredient peanut butter is best, but always ensure the peanut butter you’re serving your pup does NOT contain Xylitol.]
  • Strawberries: This fruit can help to strengthen the immune system, contains Folic Acid, Vitamins B6 and K, and also contains potassium.
  • Oat Flour: Oats are an excellent wheat alternative for dogs sensitive to wheat. Oats are a healthy carbohydrate and contain Vitamin B, Copper, Magnesium, Calcium, and Iron.
  • Unsweetened Applesauce: High in fiber, Vitamins A & C, and is a good source of antioxidants.

Easy peanut butter and dog-safe strawberry jelly dog treats!

Peanut Butter Treats

  • 1 1/2 Cup Quick Oats

  • 3 TBSP Peanut Butter (single ingredient or any dog-safe peanut butter)*

  • 1/2 Cup Unsweetened Applesauce*

  • Chia Seed Jam
  • 1 Cup Fresh or Frozen Strawberries

  • 3 TBSP Chia Seeds

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350 F
  • Make the chia seed jam first. Blend strawberries into a smooth purée, add to a separate bowl, add chia seeds, and stir well. Set aside.
  • Blend quick oats into flour in a food processor. You can add the peanut butter and unsweetened applesauce to your food processor to thoroughly combine all peanut butter treat ingredients.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Scoop tsp size balls of dough onto the parchment. Using your thumb or the back of your tsp, press a small indent into each doughball.
  • Gently fill each indent with the strawberry chia seed mixture.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes and allow to cool completely. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Notes

  • *I prefer single ingredient peanut butter for my dog treats. Otherwise, regular peanut butter is generally okay for dogs. Just be sure that your peanut butter does not contain Xylitol as this ingredient is toxic to dogs.
  • *Always consult with your vet before introducing new foods to your dog. Be mindful of food sensitivities and introduce new foods slowly. This recipe is simply just a treat for your dog and not meant to replace a full balanced meal or diet.
  • * Make sure your applesauce is unsweetened and not sugar free. Artificial sugars and regular sugar can be dangerous when consumed by dogs.
