Strawberry Peanut Butter Frozen Dog Treats

Strawberry and Peanut Butter are the perfect pair. Let’s bring them together to make Strawberry Peanut Butter Frozen Dog Treats!

How is your summer going? Ours is going pretty well but has also been nonstop busy! Preparing for a baby is a lot of work. I’m between reading newborn books, books about our new life with dogs and babies, and everything in between. We haven’t even gotten to the nursery yet. Okay, now let’s make some Strawberry Peanut Butter Frozen Dog Treats!

With all that said, summertime dog treats are my absolute favorite. My frozen dog treats are usually only 1-3 ingredients, they take minimal effort, and the dogs love them. I almost always have peanut butter and strawberries on hand too.

What will you need to make these Strawberry Peanut Butter Frozen Dog Treats?

Strawberry Peanut Butter Frozen Dog Treats

You won’t need much, and all ingredients are yummy and healthy. Of course, you’ll need single-ingredient peanut butter and fresh strawberries. The added secret ingredient I used is plain coconut milk yogurt! My dogs don’t do well with traditional dairy yogurt, but you can use what works best for your dog! Also, make sure to have an appropriately sized silicone freezer mold. I love these dog bone molds from Amazon because they’re easy to break in half.

Plain Greek yogurt is considered the best option for dogs. Never give dogs flavored or sweetened yogurts. The added sugar is unnecessary, and it could contain ingredients that are toxic to your dog. Always stick with plain! I’ve been loving the plain coconut milk yogurt for my dogs, and they’ve done very well with it.

When it comes to peanut butter, I always aim for single-ingredient peanut butter. If that’s not an option, you can use traditional peanut butter. Try to aim for low sugar, and make sure it does not contain Xylitol, which is toxic to dogs. You can learn more about dog-safe human foods through the ASPCA and by consulting with your vet.

Do these frozen dog treats have health benefits?

Strawberry Peanut Butter Frozen Dog Treats

Of course! I don’t like to make treats for my dogs with ingredients that don’t serve a purpose. So, these treats contain healthy ingredients that have health benefits too!

  • Strawberries: This fruit can help to strengthen the immune system, contains Folic Acid, Vitamins B6 and K, and also contains potassium.
  • Peanut Butter: (single-ingredient): Source of protein, healthy fats, Vitamin B, and Vitamin E. [Single-ingredient peanut butter is best, but always ensure the peanut butter you’re serving your pup does NOT contain Xylitol.]
  • Plain Coconut Milk Yogurt or Plain Greek Yogurt: Yogurt contains Probiotics for gut health and immunity, calcium, magnesium, and protein. See notes below about choosing dog-safe yogurt.

Strawberry and Peanut Butter are the perfect pair. Let’s bring them together to make Strawberry Peanut Butter Frozen Dog Treats!

Ingredients

  • Six Large Fresh Strawberries

  • 1 Cup (divided) Plain Coconut Milk Yogurt or Plain Greek Yogurt

  • 1/4 Cup of Peanut Butter (Single-ingredient, Xylitol free*)

Directions

  • Wash and chop the fresh strawberries. Place your chopped strawberries and chosen yogurt and puree in a blender until smooth. Set aside strawberry yogurt mixture.Strawberry Peanut Butter Frozen Dog Treats
  • Blend the remaining 1/2 cup of your chosen dog-safe yogurt and dog-safe peanut butter until smooth. Set aside.Strawberry Peanut Butter Frozen Dog Treats
  • Choose an appropriately sized silicone freezer mold for your dog treats. Spoon a small amount of the peanut butter mixture into the mold first. Each mold should be filled about half way. Lightly tap on the counter to try to smooth out any air bubbles. The peanut butter mix is more dense than the strawberry. Filling the molds with peanut butter first you’ll avoid the strawberry mixture from fully mixing with the peanut butter mix.Strawberry Peanut Butter Frozen Dog Treats
  • No need to freeze in between adding both flavors! Add your strawberry yogurt mix on top of the peanut butter so now your molds should be filled completely.
  • Freeze for at least two hours and then serve!

Notes

  • It is best to feed yogurt in small amounts. Always make sure the yogurt is plain, never sweetened with no added fruits. Xylitol can be toxic to dogs so always make sure this ingredient is not in your chosen yogurt. We opted for plant-based yogurt due to Luna’s dairy allergy. Plain Greek yogurt is great due to it being lower in lactose than regular yogurt.
  • *Always consult with your vet before introducing new foods to your dog. Be mindful of food sensitivities and introduce new foods slowly. This recipe is simply just a treat for your dog and not meant to replace a full balanced meal or diet.
  • I prefer single ingredient peanut butter for my dog treats. Otherwise, regular peanut butter is generally okay for dogs. Just be sure that your peanut butter does not contain Xylitol as this ingredient is toxic to dogs.
