Summer Must-Haves For Your Dog

We are so ready for summer! Summer time for us means a lot of fun outside but it also means lots of dirt, sun, heat, scrapes, frozen treats, and trying to keep things tidy while letting the dogs enjoy our few months of really good weather. I’ve compiled a list of some of my must-haves for our pups during the spring and summer months. I hope you find some of these suggestions beneficial to both you and your pup!

We take lots of walks and trips to the park in the summer time. It’s so important to take extra special care of our Frenchie’s because their breed is prone to heat stroke. It’s important to remember the health of all breeds of dogs during summer months though. Heat stroke is very dangerous in all breeds and it’s important to monitor how much time is spent outside on really hot days. Always make sure you have access to give your dogs clean drinking water and first aid if needed. Also, I am the person that picks up my dogs poop – I hope you are too. Poop is gross, disease can be spread easily to other dogs through poop, it sucks to step in poop when you’re enjoying a nice walk, and they make awesome earth-friendly poop bags now.

We prefer harnesses for our pups over collars. French Bulldogs and many other breeds are prone to spinal issues and potential injuries if too much stress is put on their back and neck. That being said before the Frenchie’s we always used collars when walking our pitbulls and they were always fine but they are a sturdier breed. So I can only suggest that you choose what is best for your pup but we love the harnesses from the Frenchie Store. Their harnesses can really be worn by any breed. Check out Okja (our Frenchie-Pit) in the pic below to see how well the fully adjustable harness fits her! We plan to do a full review at some point but these are much higher quality than other harnesses we have purchased. I knew I wanted to be a part of the Frenchie Store family after our first purchase from them because I was so impressed! I didn’t think harness quality could be that different between brands but they definitely put a special focus on dog health with their versatile health harness. They also offer cooling bandanas which are sooo awesome for keeping your pup cool while playing outside.

If you don’t already have a dog hammock for your backseat I would totally recommend getting one. We use to just use beach towels to cover our backseats and we decided to upgrade when we got a new car last year. We have two dogs that get car sick nearly every time we go on a trip so this makes clean up a breeze, we don’t have to worry about damage to our seats, and most of them come with seat-belts for your pup too. Try to find one that has ventilation on the front so that air can easily flow from your front seat to the backseat. We also love our cooling dog cots and cooling mats for summer. I can almost always find a pup napping on the cot we have in our backyard during the summer months.

We always have Paw and Snout Soother from the Natural Dog Company on hand at our house but it’s super beneficial to keep for the summer months too! The Snout Soother is awesome because it acts as a sunscreen for your pups nose and protects against windburn. Paw Soother helps treat dry and cracked paws from all of those extra walks we take in the summer. You can shop for Natural Dog products through Amazon or directly through their website.
