Wild and Brown Rice Blueberry Dog Treats

These Wild and Brown Rice Blueberry Dog Treats are gourmet and so easy!

Wild and brown rice blueberry dog treats

I have been so busy lately! I recently started taking an online course to progress in my regular 9-5, and shortly after that, I received an unexpected promotion. After last year, it feels good to be so busy, but it’s also a little overwhelming. I had a lot of fun creating these Wild and Brown Rice Blueberry Dog Treats. They’re gourmet, with simple ingredients, and the dogs loved them.

Making homemade dog treats has been a great way for me to unwind and be creative. It’s also been an excellent way for me to feel connected to the dogs in a time where I am busier than I have ever been.

We’re focused on blueberries this month because July is National Blueberry Month! We kicked off this month with our Blueberry Banana Fruit Leather Dog Treats, which are also an effortless dog treat to make!

Michigan also happens to be in the top three states for producing blueberries. I always love buying local blueberries to snack on, and they’re an excellent snack for the dogs too.

Blueberry Health Benefits for Dogs

  • Blueberries are low in calories; they contain antioxidants, Vitamins C and K, fiber, and their nutrients support the immune system.

The other ingredients in the Wild and Brown Rice Blueberry Dog Treats have significant health benefits too..

  • Brown Rice: contains Vitamins B and D, which are great for heart health; it is high in fiber and magnesium and is a good carbohydrate source.
  • Wild Rice: This is rich in fiber, antioxidants, and your dog may love the unique flavor!
  • Chia Seeds: Chia seeds are considered a superfood! As with all foods, make sure to introduce them slowly. These tiny seeds are high in protein and fiber, may help reduce inflammation, aid in brain function, and are a great source of Omega-3 fatty acids.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 Cup of Fresh Blueberries roughly chopped

  • 3 TBSP of Brown Rice Flour

  • 1 Cup of unseasoned Brown and Wild Rice mix (If you can’t find an unseasoned blend, you can use 1/2 a cup of plain brown rice.)

  • One chia seed egg

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350 F
  • Make your chia egg by combining one tablespoon of chia seeds with three tablespoons on warm water. Whisk together and allow to sit for 5-10 minutes. You will see that they will become thick and gel like.
  • Roughly chop your fresh blueberries
  • Thoroughly combine your 3/4 c. of chopped blueberries, 1 c. of fully cooked wild and brown rice, 3 TBSP of brown rice flour, and your chia egg in a mixing bowl.
  • Fill your silicone baking molds with the treat mixture. Bake for 20-25 minutes (edges will start to brown). Remove from the oven, allow to cool completely, and store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week. You can also make small quarter sized patties if you don’t have treat molds.
